¥$ is a superduo between rapper Kanye West and rapper/singer Ty Dolla Sign. Their close friendship and previous collabs led to Kanye invited Ty to record songs in Tokyo, Italy, and Saudi Arabia. During this time, they planned a three album collab under the name "Vultures 1", "Vultures 2", and "Vultures 3" (the last of which has yet to release and is most likely not going to). Their collab was confirmed by Ty who posted an image on instagram displaying "¥$" in October 2023. In January of the next year, Kanye stated that the Vultures project would be a trilogy and revealed the three release dates to be February 9, March 8, and April 5 (none of which released on the promised dates).
Vultures 1 released a day after promised on February 10 and debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200, making it Kanye's 11th number 1 album and Ty's first. The original album cover that Kanye had previewed in January sparked controversy due to it being seemingly inspired by the album cover of "Filosofem" by Burzum who was arrested for murder and arson and had openly promoted Neo-Nazism. Kanye later changed the album cover to a picture of him in all black clothing standing next to his wife Bianca Censori who in the picture is standing with her back to turned and wearing sheer clothing around her waist
Vultures 2 released almost 5 months after the promised release date on August 3 2024 and reached number 2 on the US Billboard 200, causing it to break Kanye's streak of 11 consecutive number 1 album debuts. Vultures 2 released with a cover of Ty Dolla Sign in all black clothing holding a picture of his brother Big TC who is serving a life in prison for a murder charge in 2004 Ty has publicly multiple maintained his brother's innocence.
As for Vultures 3, it remains unreleased but was expected to release as of January 2025 according to Ty. He confirmed this again in March during a performance, despite Kanye's controversial antisemetic Twitter rant the previous month. In April 2025 Kanye stated on Twitter that Ty Dolla Sign is no longer speaking to him, likely due to his rant, and while Kanye wanted to release the album, he was unsure if it would ever see the light of day.
